Description

Tradescantia Quadricolor also known as Quadricolour Wandering gypsy or Wandering jew plant, Tradescantia fluminensis Quadricolor perennial evergreen or annual in colder climate used as ornamental groundcover plant, can grow in mediterranean, desert, subtropics, temperate or tropics climate.

Leaves color is green, white, pink and purple, in elliptic shape with pointed edge. Easy going and low maintenance, Tradescantia plants are fast-growing vining plants perfect for shelves and hangers. This plant is a succulent that requires very little extra care and likes to dry out a little between watering. These popular plants appreciate bright, indirect light. They are fast-growers and can be pinched back to make the plant more compact and bushy.

Tradescantia Zebrina ‘Quadricolor’ is an evergreen, trailing perennial cultivar with attractive, diverse foliage. The leaves are vividly coloured and have small, pink, three-petalled flowers. It’s usually planted indoors to be a houseplant. It requires direct, bright light as well as regular pruning. It isn’t able to cope with cold temperatures very well. It’s also known in the tradescantia’ Quadricolor’ or Tradescantia’ Quadricolour.’ The flowers open in succession to keep energy in reserve, typically early in the morning. They usually close after the sun setting in the afternoon. They can be open even on days with cloudy conditions. It is essential to avoid it causing reactions to the skin of certain pets if they consume it. Plants belonging to the Tradescantia genus have been recently referred to as ‘Wandering Jewish.’ The world of horticulture has ceased using this term because of its use in the past in promoting antisemitic stereotypes.

Plant Care

  • Wandering jew plants do best in bright, but indirect sunlight. You want to provide your plant with enough light to keep its color and flower.
  • Tradescantias don’t like their soil to be completely dry for too long. So remind yourself to water regularly.
  • Tradescantia likes free-draining soil that never allows roots to be wet. You can use any good-quality commercial soil mix for houseplants.
  • 10 – 25°C
  • In the growing season Tradescantia benefits from a monthly feeding.
